FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina toddler was critically hurt in a shooting at a Fayetteville home, authorities said.

According to the Fayetteville Observer and WTVD, the incident occurred about 10 a.m. Wednesday in a duplex on Mosswood Lane. Two adults, a teenager and a 2-year-old boy were inside the home when the toddler was struck by gunfire, WTVD reported.

Crews flew the boy to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, where he remains in critical condition, according to the Observer.

“In my opinion, any gunshot wound is serious, especially when it happens to a juvenile,” Fayetteville police Lt. Gary Womble said, according to WTVD. “It’s even more serious and more serious for us in our investigative methods to find out exactly what occured that a child would suffer a gunshot wound.”

Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the shooting, which remains under investigation, the outlets reported.
